TWO-STAGE PACKED BED TRAIN
AIR POLLUTION CONTROL · SCRUBBERS

FRP & PP/FRP wet scrubbers for acid, alkaline and odorous gases

Packed bed, cross-flow, impingement plate and venturi scrubbers, sized in ChemCAD against the actual inlet stream and built in FRP, PP/FRP and dual-laminate construction.

01 — CONFIGURATIONS

Four scrubber types, chosen by the chemistry and the headroom.

The right configuration depends on gas solubility, particulate loading and how much height the plant can give you. We recommend one; we do not default to one.
TYPE 01
Vertical counter-current packed bed
Packed towers for soluble acid and alkaline gases. The workhorse for HCl, HF, HNO₃ and NH₃ duty.
TO 85,000 CMH
TYPE 02
Horizontal cross-flow packed bed
Low-headroom packed beds where a tower will not fit. Strong on H₂SO₄ mist.
TO 112,500 CMH
TYPE 03
Impingement plate (tray) tower
Tray towers for high-efficiency absorption where a packed bed would foul.
TO 42,000 CMH
TYPE 04
Venturi scrubber
Electrically actuated variable-throat designs for combined particulate and gas duty.
TO 165,000 CMH
02 — SPECIFICATION

The envelope, in numbers.

Ranges shown are what we have executed. Design capability extends further, and every unit is sized against the gas analysis, not the gas volume.

04 — HOW WE SIZE IT

Four inputs decide whether a scrubber meets its limit.

Gas analysis, not gas volume. Inlet concentration and solubility set the transfer units, which set bed height.
Liquid-to-gas ratio. Under-circulating saves pump power and fails the stack test. We fix it in simulation, not on site.
Resin against the real chemistry. Vinyl ester where the service argues for it, with the reasoning documented where it does not.
System resistance, then the fan. Static loss to ACGIH, then the blower off our own curve rather than a catalogue.

05 — CONSTRUCTION

What goes into every unit

01
Corrosion barrier and structural laminate
A resin-rich inner barrier for chemical resistance, backed by a structural laminate sized to the governing code.
02
Thermoplastic liners where the chemistry demands
PP, PVC or PVDF dual-laminate construction for services FRP alone should not see.
03
Mist elimination
Chevron or mesh demisters sized to stop liquor carry-over to the stack.
04
Recirculation and dosing
Integral or separate sump, recirculation pumps and pH / ORP controlled dosing.
05
Access and inspection
Manholes, spray headers that can be pulled for cleaning, and sight glasses where useful.

07 — QUESTIONS

What engineers ask us first

These answers are also written for search. Each question is a query buyers type into Google, which is why the FAQ block sits on every equipment page.

What information do you need to size a scrubber?+
Gas flow and temperature, the contaminant and its inlet concentration, the outlet limit you need to meet, and the space available. With those four, an engineer can come back with a configuration and a budgetary figure.
Packed bed or venturi — which do I need?+
A packed bed is the efficient choice for soluble gases at low pressure drop. A venturi earns its higher energy cost when there is significant particulate alongside the gas, or a very high inlet loading.
Should the scrubber be FRP or polypropylene?+
FRP gives structural strength at larger sizes and higher temperatures. Thermoplastics suit specific chemistries. Dual-laminate construction gives you both, and is often the right answer for aggressive service.
Do you supply the blower, ducting and stack as well?+
Yes. Single-point responsibility means the scrubber, fan, ducting and stack are designed together, and the blower is selected off our own performance curves.
Can you fix an existing scrubber that is failing its limit?+
Usually. Most failures trace to liquor ratio, packing condition or a resin mismatch. Our service team can survey the unit and propose a retrofit.
