Thermoplastic tanks in PP, PPC-UV and HDPE

Fully thermoplastic tanks, extrusion welded from sheet, for services that want a resin-free wetted surface. PPC-UV for tanks that will stand outdoors.

PP · PPC-UV
Homopolymer and UV-stabilised copolymer
HDPE
For effluent and alkali duty
DVS 2205

01 — CONFIGURATIONS

Four shapes, chosen by the process and the place it stands.

Where FRP needs a liner to meet the chemistry, a fully thermoplastic tank meets it directly. The trade-off is strength, which is why wall and rib design matters so much.
TYPE 01
Vertical cylindrical
The general-purpose storage shape, welded from rolled sheet with reinforcing bands.
STORAGE
TYPE 02
Rectangular
For process lines and tight footprints, with ribbing or an external frame.
PROCESS LINES
TYPE 03
Conical and sloping bottom
Where the tank has to drain completely, for slurries and recirculation.
FULL DRAIN
TYPE 04
PPC-UV for outdoor duty
UV-stabilised copolymer for tanks that will stand in the sun for years.
OUTDOOR
02 — SPECIFICATION

The envelope, in numbers.

Wall thickness, rib spacing and band pitch are designed to DVS 2205 for the liquid, the head and the operating temperature.

03 — APPLICATIONS

What these tanks hold

Acids and alkalis
HCl · NaOH · dilute acids and salt solutions
Process liquors
Plating and etching baths · scrubber recirculation · dosing
Water treatment
DM and high-purity water · RO skids · effluent and neutralisation
Industries
Chemicals · pharma · surface finishing · water treatment · solar and electronics
04 — HOW WE SIZE IT

What the design has to account for.

Chemistry, with no resin in between. The wetted surface is the structural material, so the grade is chosen for the service directly.
Strength falls with temperature. Polypropylene derates as it warms. The design is worked to the real operating point, not room temperature.
Head and shape. Wall thickness, band pitch and rib spacing to DVS 2205 for the liquid height and the geometry.
Indoors or outdoors. PPC-UV and a design allowance for sun and wind where the tank will stand outside.

05 — CONSTRUCTION

How a thermoplastic tank is built

01
Sheet and grade selection
PP, PPH, PPC-UV or HDPE, chosen for the chemistry and whether the tank stands outdoors.
02
Extrusion welding
Structural seams extrusion welded for full-thickness fusion, not solvent bonded.
03
Reinforcement
Bands, ribs or an external frame to control wall deflection under head.
04
Tested joints
Weld joints tested destructively and non-destructively before despatch.
05
Fitted out
Nozzles, manways, overflow, drain and level connections, ready to connect.

07 — QUESTIONS

What engineers ask us first

These answers are also written for search. Each question is a query buyers type into Google, which is why the FAQ block sits on every equipment page.

Thermoplastic or FRP?+
FRP carries load better and goes to larger sizes. A fully thermoplastic tank gives a resin-free wetted surface and is often the better answer for high-purity duty and smaller capacities.
What is PPC-UV, and when do I need it?+
UV-stabilised copolymer polypropylene. Unstabilised PP degrades in direct sunlight, so any tank standing outdoors should be PPC-UV.
How hot can a PP tank run?+
It depends on the chemistry and the head. We derate the design for the actual operating temperature, to DVS 2205.
Can you supply a dual-laminate version instead?+
Yes. A PP, HDPE or PVDF liner with an FRP structural shell gives the same wetted surface with far more strength.
